History

New Zion Missionary Baptist Church was organized on November 7th 1937 by the late Rev. William Jones, who became the church first Pastor. Between the years of 1947- 1951 the church experienced several Pastoral leadership changes. On January 5th 1951, Rev. Dr. T.L. White was elected the next Pastor. Under his administration the churches experience a bold progressive move upward for the Lord. With this upward bound attitude the church never lost its vitality and spirit that had its spiritually rich movement forward. After serving for 32 years as Pastor Dr. White was called from labor to reward in February 1983. On June 15th 1983 Rev. Dr. Napoleon Word law was elected Pastor. He would lead the New Zion Missionary Baptist church for the next 25 years. Under his leadership the church experience tremendous growth. A new church edifice was built. Along with a Banquet Hall called the UPPER ROOM as well as the New Zion Child Care Academy. Enormous Ministries was established under Pastor Wordlaw’s great leadership. The church has become and influence in the community and throughout the Chicago land area. And unto this day it continues to be model for the nation. Pastor Word law is now serving as Pastor Emeritus. In September of 2010, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church elected Rev. Dr Nicholas Brown to be the church’s Pastor. Through the Aid of the Holy Spirit he is carrying out the Mission of the Master that God has already set before him.

To become heavens beacon of light in a dark world, by lifting up Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, through prayer, praise, and the preaching of the Gospel.
